Today the second grade students of Porters Point School helped bring a little
holiday cheer to the hearts and minds of the clients at the VNA in Colchester.
The excited energy of over 80 second graders crowding the lobby of the Adult Day
Program brought smiles to the faces of the clients before a single tune was
sung! At the end of the sing-a-long, the VNA surprised the students with juice
and snacks before they had to head back to school. Special thanks to Marcia
Devino, Brenda Bristol, Mr. Marshall and all the second grade teachers at
Porters Point School, for making today a special day for the clients of the VNA

As a school, we are glad to continue our tradition of celebrating holidays. At
the end of the school day, children, faculty and staff alike dressed up for the

the building, classroom to classroom, to show off their costumes. Only
non-violent costumes were allowed. Here's a look at some of this year's

Fire Prevention Week
To celebrate National Fire Prevention Week, October 6-10, Malletts Bay Fire
Department made a special visit to Porters Point School. Four local volunteer
firefighters (Dameon Diette, Travis Ploof, Craig McSweeney and Chip Brooks) came
into PPS 1st grade classrooms to discuss what they do in our community. This
tied directly into the first grade curriculum of Community Helpers.
After this the firefighters joined students for a pizza lunch provided by
Colchester Food Services. Then they had their trucks on display for all PPS
students. The high point of this activity was when our Principal, Jim Marshall,
went up on the 75 foot ladder to observe all the students on the PPS playground!
Thank you Malletts Bay Fire Department for a wonderful time during National
Fire Prevention Week!

Red Sox Visit PPS - Hood Sox Tops for Kids
HP Hood and the Boston Red Sox Announce Winner of 2007 Sox Tops for Kids
Program
For the second year in a row, a school from Vermont wins a visit by Boston Red
Sox players
LYNNFIELD, MA, December 12, 2007— HP Hood, New England’s leading dairy
products
company, and the Boston Red Sox announced today that Porters Point School in
Colchester, Vt. is
the 2007 winner of the Sox Tops for Kids program.
Porters Point, a kindergarten through second grade elementary school,
collected 37,651 caps for a
ratio of 166 caps per student. The school will receive $1882.55— 5 cents per cap
redeemed— and a
visit from members of the World Champion Boston Red Sox in spring 2008.
“Porters Point School once again proved to be an incredibly supportive and
dedicated community,”
said Jim Marshall, principal at Porters Point. “When the announcement was made
that our school
collected the most caps, and that the Red Sox will be paying us a visit, our
children erupted in
screams of excitement.
“We can’t begin to thank Hood enough for this once in a lifetime opportunity
to bring the World
Champion Red Sox to our small school in Vermont.”
Porters Point is the second school from Vermont to be named the winner of the
Sox Tops for Kids
program in as many years. Last year, Champlain Elementary School, of Burlington,
won a visit from
Red Sox players Mike Timlin, Brendan Donnelly and Coco Crisp.
“We’re overwhelmed by the level of participation that we’ve gotten from
schools and students in the
state of Vermont— and throughout all of New England,” said Lynne Bohan, vice
president of public
relations for HP Hood. “Plans are already being made for the 2008 Sox Tops for
Kids program, so
schools should be on the lookout for more details. We’re hoping to get even more
students involved
next year.”
Sox Tops for Kids allows participating schools to earn as much as $10,000 a
year— to be used at their
own discretion— by collecting and redeeming eligible caps from Hood Milk in the
LightBlock
Bottle®. Specially marked Sox Tops caps can be found on all LightBlock Bottle
sizes except the 10-ounce bottle. This year’s Sox Tops for Kids program began April 1, 2007, and ran
through October 31,
2007.
