School Title One Math Program |

Purpose and Scope
Title I Math's purpose is to provide
supplemental instruction to qualifying students in order to contribute
to the foundation being built in their classrooms.
The program scope includes, but is not
limited to, the following concepts:
- Numeration;
- Number Theory
- Mental Math and Estimation;
- Computation (whole numbers,
decimals, fractions);
- Ratio, Proportion, and Percent;
- Pre-Algebra;
- Graphing, Statistics, and
Probability;
- Measurement;
- Geometry; and
- Problem-solving.

Jon Moore

Jon Moore has been teaching grades 3
through 8 in Colchester since 1973. He is a graduate of Castleton State
College and received his Masters degree in 1975 from St. Michael's
College.
Barbara Hartshorn

Barbara is a 1974 graduate of the
University of Vermont. She has been working in the field of
education ever since.

Grade 3 is currently working on
the following concepts:
- Conduct choral fact practice with
the first set of fact triangles.
- Solve multiplication number stories
using counters, arrays and diagrams.
- Fill in missing factors and
products.
- Solve equal-groups and equal-shares
number stories.
- Draw parallel and intersecting line
segments and rays.
- Identify faces, vertices, and
edges.
- Make ballpark estimates.
- Solve multidigit addition and
subtraction problems.
Grade 4 is currently working on
the following concepts:
- Use probability language to
describe the likelihood of specified events.
- Write equivalent decimals for
fractions with denominators of 10 or 100, and write equivalent
fractions for decimals.
- Write equivalent fractions.
- Compare fractions.
- Order fractions.
- Name fractions of regions or
collections. Find the ONE.
- Calculate expected probability of
an event.
- Plot coordinates on a grid.
- Multiply multidigit numbers.
- Divide multidigit numbers by
one-digit divisors.

Grade 5
is currently working on the following concepts:
- Use >, <, or = to compare numbers.
- Identify power of 10 for given numbers.
- Order and compare positive and negative numbers.
- Add and subtract positive and negative numbers.
- Identify number sentences and tell whether they are true or
false.
- Understand and apply order of operations to evaluate expressions
and solve number sentences.
- Understand and apply the use of parentheses in number sentences.

Grades 3&4
Grades 3 and 4 students
are currently working on decoding, fluency and comprehension, specifically story structure, character traits and predictions.
Students are active readers who practice making connections and asking
questions as they read. We are continuing to focus on sight words
and phrases, decoding strategies, and fiction and nonfiction
comprehension in the coming weeks.

Grade 5
Grades 5 students are currently working on higher level
comprehension. We are focusing specifically on text structure, character traits,
predictions and comprehension questions. Students are active readers and
practice making connections and asking
questions as they read. We will be working on research strategies,
vocabulary and
examining character motives in the coming weeks.
