Vermont Act 166 was passed in 2014 and provides universal access to publicly funded prekindergarten education (Pre-K). All public and private Pre-K programs (including Head Start and public school operated programs) must meet specific requirements to operate in Vermont. Among the requirements, qualified programs must provide at least 10 hours of instruction for 35 weeks to preschool-aged children.
For families who enroll their child in an ACT 166 Community Partner Program for the current 2017-2018 school year, they will receive tuition funding up to $3,178. For families looking to enroll their child for the next school year (2018-2019) the funding has increased to $3,267. Enrolling children in Pre-K is voluntary. Families can enroll in these programs, in other early education options, or keep preschoolers at home.
