CAP
Art Philosophy
Our class focuses on individual
artistic progress. My goal is to foster creativity in the classroom, encouraging
and challenging students to reach their full potential. The class emphasizes the
process of art-making and its healing affects.
Instructor: Jenny Jacobson

CAP Humanities Curriculum
CAP offers a
humanities curriculum that combines English and Social Studies. It includes
history, grammar, literature, vocabulary, current events and cultural
exploration. Since Colchester High School requires both World History and U.S.
History, CAP alternates these two classes each year as part of its Humanities
curriculum.

CAP Science Program
The Science
classes in CAP are an integration of traditional classroom work, field
experiences and activities in “nature’s classroom.” We attempt to have students
learn in a variety of ways that allow them to see and touch what they read about
in the classroom. Mountain hikes, fossil exploration, wetlands trips, Adopt A
Salmon program and composting are examples of these hands on learning
activities. Individualized learning activities are also designed when
appropriate for some students.
CAP Physical Education Classes
The CAP Physical
Education classes are varied and offer a wide variety of activities so that all
students may find enjoyment and be able to engage in a healthier lifestyle.
There is also an attempt by the staff to offer activities that are cross
curriculum. Mountain hikes are integrated with Science curriculum for example
to engage the entire person. Activities are geared toward the seasons with the
hope that students will learn how to take full advantage of the opportunities
that the Northeast has to offer.

CAP Target
Graduation Program
The Target
Graduation program serves a number of different needs. The most common would be
to help a student make up deficient credits over and above their present course
load in order to meet graduation requirements. The other typical situation
would be when a student would earn their credits primarily through the Target
Graduation program. In both cases, students meet individually with the Target
Graduation coordinator to design a plan that is catered to the individual
student where assignments are created that meet outcomes and graduation
requirements. These assignments are done at the CAP facility and at home by the
students.
