Beginning February 2, 2010 students will have a weekly assignment that comprises the selection of 5 problems from "MathCounts" (visit the MathCounts web site for more details) and/or "Palette of Problems" (published in Teaching Middle School Mathematics). Students have been provided with a rubric to guide them through their mathematical explanation and reasoning.

My name is Ken Epstein and I am the Mathematics and Humanities teacher for the Mansfield House sixth grade and teaming with Perry Nunn at CMS. Teaching and working with young adults and adolescents is a satisfying and fulfilling responsibility that I have grown to embrace more deeply with each passing year. I will strive to make your child's experience as a student challenging and rewarding through a caring and supportive classroom.

Please know that you are always welcome to contact me with questions or concerns either at school or home any time.

Class and homework assignments are to be kept in your notebook. Place your name and the current date on your work, and store it chronologically in your binders. Although your homework grade is a small percentage of your overall grade, it is the questions and discussions that arise from these assignments that make your participation critical to your understanding. It is important that you begin to learn how to monitor your own understanding of new learning and to ask for clarification when you are unclear. I will be using several assessments to help you throughout this process.
