Hi, My name is Debbie Howard. I have been teaching in Colchester for many years and I love working with students and parents in this district. I have taught straight second grade and multi-age first and second. There are many things I enjoy about teaching but some of my favorite parts of the day are "Morning Meeting", Literacy Block (reading and writing), and teaching math problem solving. Another role for me at UMS is helping with professional development activities related to literacy. I love reading!!
A typical day in our classroom would go like this:
I have parent volunteers that help out with reading, math, and ELF. I really appreciate their help and the extra support is key to the success of many students in my classroom. If you are available at the time I have reading or math, please contact me and we'll try to work out a good time for you to come in and help. I have parent volunteers doing activities such as reading with students, playing math or reading games, or practicing math facts. I hope the information you find here will be helpful!

Here
is information on how to contact me. You will find me at school from about
7:30 AM until about 3:30(unless I have a meeting). The phone number at school
is 264-5959. If you call and I am in class, leave a message with the
secretary and I'll call you back as soon as I can. If you send a note with
your child, I try to get back to you the same day if at all possible.
