Readers' Choice

Looking for a good book? Well, the UMS second grade students have a few they'd like to suggest...

Jack recommends:
Star Wars,

"I like this book because it is a rally cool book and it can happen in the future. They have a lot of action like shoot-em-up. It is a really good book. I think you should read it."

Nathan recommends:
Fish is Fish, by Leo Leonni

"I like how he uses his collage. I like how he uses his bold strokes. I like things that the frog tells him."

Selma recommends:
Wait 'til Helen Comes, by Mary Downing Haun

"This book is a ghost story. This book has six characters: Molly, Heather, Michael, the mom, the dad, and the ghost Helen. First the family moves into an old church. In the backyard there is a graveyard. That is where Heather met Helen. Heather and Helen both are seven years old. Molly and Michael are worried about Heather. Heather keeps lying to get her out of trouble and Molly and Michael into trouble. "

Morgan recommends:
Big Shark's Lost Tooth, by Steve Metzger

"I like this book because I like reading the letter. I like Gertie a lot too because he is funny. I like seeing the crystal chomp just because it is a pretty crystal."

Liam recommends:
Pokemon Team Rocket Blastoff, adapted by Tracey West

"This is a great book because Team Rocket Blastoff gets the gem from their boss and Ash challenges them. Ash wins and gets his eighth badge. This is the highest badge a Pokemon trainer can receive."

Paul recommends:
The World Almanac for Kids 2001, by the World Almanac Education Group

"I like this book because it has a  lot of interesting facts about money and business, music and dance and other interesting facts around the world."

Allison recommends:
Diary of a Wimpy Kid, by Jeff Kinney

"It's a really funny book. The main character, Greg, has a brother named Roderick and Roderick has a band called The Loaded Diaper. The comics are funny too. Greg's brother Manny sits on a plastic potty while he eats breakfast then when he's done he dumps it in the potty. And that's why I chose this book."

Nicky recommends:
Rocks and Minerals
, by Illa Podendorf

"It is a fun story to read. You learn a lot about rocks and minerals. I think it is a really good story."

Danny recommends:
Any Kind of Dog, by Lynn Reiser

"I like this book because I can relate to it. The boy really buys stuffed animals instead, but they are not the same as having a real dog. He finally gets one. And I want a dog too. I am always asking my mom for a dog. The dog completed their family."

Thomas recommends:
I Love You the Purlpest, by Barbara M. Joose, illustrated by Mary Whyte

"I liked the book because I like to go fishing and it's a fishing book. I also like it because Max said he is the best fisherman. I love to fish with worms but I would rather fish with fish."

Brandon recommends:
A House for Hermit Crab, by Eric Carle

"I like how the crab collected all the things for his shell. I like the illustrations because they are colorful."
