Policies

Attention Colchester Parents and Students

You have the right to obtain information on the following topics:

  • Highly Qualified Status of Teachers: Teachers must meet certain criteria for their position. Parents may ask the school district for the Highly Qualified status of their child's teacher. For more information, click here.
  • Parent Permission Request: Throughout the year, our schools publish pictures and accounts of the activities of our students. Often student work and projects are put on public display. Sometimes students are asked to participate in school related surveys (such as the Youth Risk Behavior Survey). At the beginning of each year the school district requests permission from parents for these purposes. For more information, click here.
  • Student Directory Information: Federal law authorizes the routine release of directory information on students. Directory information is generally not considered harmful or an invasion of privacy if released. Student directory information may be included in school publications (such as yearbook and recognition lists). At Colchester High School this information may be released to military recruiters or colleges. You have the right to deny the release of your child's directory information. For more information, click here.
  • Student Records: Federal law protects the privacy of student education records. This law gives parents certain rights with respect to their child's education rights. These rights transfer to the student when they reach the age of 18. The Colchester School District has a policy and procedures in place for the maintenance, disclosure, transfer and destruction of student education records. For more information, click here.
