Student artists studied Sumi-e (black-ink) paintings from Japan. After practicing holding their bamboo brush in vertical and slant positions they created landscapes silhouetting against a vibrant sky. These paintings are from Mrs. Rayner's third grade students. Some of Mrs. Rayner's student wrote Haiku poetry about their paintings.
