ILLNESS TIPS:

NEW PROCEDURE

All calls informing the school of an absence
should be made to the nurse at 264-5904,
not the front office.
This will provide the school and families with accurate information and guidance regarding illnesses.

Be prepared to leave your child's name, teacher, reason for absence.  Homework requests can also be left with the nurse.

REMINDER:  ALL CONTAGIOUS ILLNESSES SHOULD BE REPORTED TO THE NURSE

Chicken pox, Strep Throat, Pertussis (whooping cough), coxsackie (hand, foot mouth disease) and Fifth's disease are examples of illnesses you should notify the nurse of asap.

ASTHMA

Many MBS students have inhalers for asthma that are used only occasionally.  During the spring, the PE department has a fitness challenge test which coincides with our recess long trail walks.  This extra running may require the use of an inhaler that otherwise would not be needed.  If you suspect this may occur, it is best to contact your physician early, get an extra inhaler and order as described in the medication procedure. (useful links and medication tips)

Physicals

Colchester School District strongly recommends a copy of your child's physical to be on file at their school.  Please provide a copy of your child's most recent physical to the school nurse.

MEDICATION TIPS:

ALL MEDICATIONS SHOULD BE TAKEN AT HOME IF AT ALL POSSIBLE.

When medications need to be administered at school, the following must occur.

  • ALL MEDICATIONS MUST BE BROUGHT TO SCHOOL BY AN ADULT (students may NOT bring medications to school including over the counter medications)

  • Medications Must be in a pharmacy labeled container.

  • A Written physician order must be provided on any form used by the physician or use the school district form to the left.

  • ALL MEDICATIONS MUST BE PICKED UP BY AN ADULT AT THE END OF THE USE OR END OF THE YEAR

IMMUNIZATIONS

Colchester School District requires a copy of your child's immunizations to be on file with your child's school nurse.  Please provide a copy of your child's immunizations or a signed waiver if  immunizations have been withheld for medical, religious or moral reasons.
