 Dear 5^th Grader,

Welcome to 5th grade in the Summit House!  My name is Ms. Powsner and I’m very excited to be your 5^th grade teacher.   Let me tell you a little about myself.  I have been teaching 5^th grade at Malletts Bay School for many years, (I won’t tell you how many because that might give away my age).  I live in Colchester with my husband who teaches music at the Flemming School in Essex Junction.  We have one daughter whose name is Katie.  She’s an art student at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York.  In the summer I spend my time fishing, kayaking, reading and camping.  How about you?  Get ready to tell me on the first day of school!
         Although it may seem difficult to think about school now, fall will be here before you know it!  Below, I have listed some supplies that may be helpful to have when you arrive at school:

pencils and erasers                    colored pencils
pencil box                                     crayons 
scissors                                        ruler
glue stick                                      box of Kleenex
highlighter                                    two subject spiral notebook
3 ring binder                                sharpies (fine or ultra fine point)

           I will provide you with other needed supplies including a homework assignment book.  Two other things I would like you to bring on the first day of school include a picture of you doing something you love and the name of your favorite book or author.
         On Tuesday, August 26^th from 8:30 to 10:30 Summit House will be having an Open House.  Feel free to stop by to say hi and see your new classroom.  Our room is at the end of the Summit House hall on the right.             I am looking forward to a fun year together filled with lots of exciting activities, challenges, and learning.  Enjoy the rest of your summer and I can't wait to see you in August!
