Story Cube

To share your book with others, you will create an eye-catching, three- dimensional display. This story cube will be displayed in the classroom.

To make the story cube, you will need:

. a cardboard box that is cubical
. enough butcher paper, shelf paper, wallpaper. or wrapping
paper to cover the box
. old magazines or computer graphics
. paper
. tape
. glue

. scissors

Use the following checklist to complete the project:

1.  _____Cover the box with paper.
2.  _____Using a felt-tipped pen or word processing, label three sides of the box setting, plot, and characters.
3.  _____On the fourth side, print or word process the title of the book and the name of its author.
4.  _____Either write or word process a paragraph describing the setting of the story (both time and place). Glue to the side of the box that says setting.
5.  _____Write or word process a paragraph describing the plot (events that happen in the story). Glue this to the side of the box that says plot.
6.  _____Write or word process a paragraph describing one of   the characters in the book. Glue this to the side of the box that says character.
7.  _____You may use old magazines, computer graphics, or your own drawings to depict characters, events, feelings, ideas, objects, or places from the book. These can be glued to the top, bottom, or sides of the box.
8.  _____Hand in your project with this checklist on the day it is due.  

 Please use the attached rubric as you are creating your project. This rubric shows the criteria for earning an “A”, “B”, or “C”.

Decorating Box

The box is covered and the corners are taped.  The sides are labeled with plot, setting, character, and author and title.

Same as 3 points, plus the wrapping paper is decorated to match the theme of the book. The  title, author, plot, setting,  and character labels are prominently displayed.

Writing

There are three paragraphs describing plot, setting, and character.  Each paragraph has 2 - 3 sentences and shows comprehension of the book.

There are 7 - 10 errors in spelling, punctuation, and grammar.

There are less than 5 errors in spelling, punctuation, and grammar.

A = 14 - 16 points
B = 10 - 13 points
C = 7 - 9 points
