Welcome to the
Colchester Middle School Information Technology education website. We have
just developed a new Information Technology program and series of courses for our students and
are looking forward to providing excellent education in various areas of
Information Technology. Not only will the students achieve this, but they
will also have a lot of fun and gain a great deal of appreciation for
technology as they discover the wonderful world of IT. Please feel free to
explore this website for some information about the various courses and
content topics we will offer our students. We are very excited about this
new program and hold ourselves and our students to the highest of
expectations to make this program a success.
Objective: To provide
Information Technology education that incorporates education standards with computing
industry standards into a comprehensive technology program exceeding the
recommended objectives of both education and computing industry
organizations.
Rationale: The standards
set forth by the educational community such as Vermont Information
Technology Grade Expectations, NETS Performance Indicators, and No Child
Left Behind Act are closely connected with the
computing industry objectives set forth in the Internet and Computing Core
Certification (IC3) and Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) programs endorsed by the computing industry
community. By using these industry recommended technology
courses as the foundation for
the Colchester Middle School
Information Technology education program, we ensure that we offer a credible and recognized
program aligned with both education and computing organizations’
recommendations. Our Information Technology courses build a solid IT foundation
and cover skills in the following areas: Microsoft Word (word processing);
Microsoft PowerPoint (slide shows); Microsoft Excel (spreadsheets);
Microsoft Access (databases); Microsoft FrontPage (web design); Microsoft Publisher
(desktop publishing); Computer Animation; Digital Video Editing; the Internet;
Windows XP Operating System; and ethical, legal, societal, and computing
safety issues. By adding miscellaneous components to
this foundational course such as electronic research and keyboarding, the
students leaving Colchester Middle School following eight grade will be
well prepared to enter high school as they will have acquired a wide
variety of IT skills. By encouraging content area teachers at the
middle school to integrate technology into their curricula, students will
be able to reinforce the skills learned in the Information Technology courses
and apply them to their daily studies and the various disciplines.
