From Officer David Dewey
Been a bit since the last Tazor update due to training and vacation.
Tazor is almost done his drug training. We're just exposing him to different environments, variations of the common drugs he's been searching for, and more difficult searches. He is almost ready for drug certification, and hope to do it at the end of this month. He is doing very well working on cars, luggage, warehouse type searches, and residences. At some point we'll go to a school, the airport and one of the delivery companies for more practice.
We've started tracking, and are up to 15 minute old trails for almost 1/4 mile. Eventually we'll get up to 30 minute old trails for 1.5 miles. Once we've reached that standard, we'll move onto apprehension work.
No real worries yet.
He is still a little spaz, and won't stop or slow down for anything. He thoroughly enjoys chewing on anything: towels, leashes, gun slings, frisbees, tracking harnesses, dog beds, coats and hats. As I read before Tazor came home with me: "Belgian Malinois need to be entertained, or they will entertain themselves at your expense."
After each weekly training session, we joke about how we forgot to bring a camera. I promise some photos soon.
Thanks for reading.
