Welcome Everyone!
This is a great school. We have a great staff with a strong curriculum and many supports to help all students be successful. Our support services staff works hard to meet the needs of all learners.
Special educators provide supports both in and out of the classroom. Case managers are assigned to students by grade level so they are able to team with regular education teachers in meeting the needs of students. In addition, we have two alternative programs to diversify the interventions we have available to help students.
The focus of the guidance department is to support students in three broad domains: academic, career and personal/social. Counselors meet the needs of students through individual counseling, group counseling and carefully planned, developmentally appropriate activities designed for use during Teacher Advisory (TA). In addition, counselors host variety of outreach events for parents.
Our two school social workers are contracted through the Baird Center and provide supports to students and families both in and out of the school setting. Furthermore, we receive services from a student support counselor from Centerpoint.
Finally, our school nurses maintain a very busy office, providing a variety of services from treating cuts and scrapes to managing health and safety plans for students with significant health needs.
Colchester High School is forward thinking in all aspects of education. From teachers differentiating instruction to counselors and special educators providing pro-active case management, it is no wonder why so many students really find themselves here. This is a place where students can thrive in a respectful learning community.
Sincerely,
Jean Shea
Director of Student Support Services
